It took some doing, but bloodstock agent Donato Lanni saw off a determined challenge from Whisper Hill Farm's Mandy Pope and her advisor Chris Brothers to secure the top-priced horse thus far at OBS April, a First Samurai filly who was knocked down for $650,000. Eddie Woods consigned the daughter of GSP Refugee (Unaccounted For), who had been purchased by Hubert Guy for just $23,000 at Keeneland September
