First Seal (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}–Episode {Aus}, by Scenic {Ire}), who holds the rare distinction of having finished ahead of the mighty Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}) on five occasions has been retired from racing. The 5-year-old mare, trained by John Thompson, won her first and only Group 1 at the expense of Winx when she beat her by three lengths in the G1 Coolmore Flight S. at Randwick in October of 2014. First Seal went on to post another four top three placings in Group 1 events while also adding three Group 2 victories to her tally, the final one coming in the G2 Schweppes Tristarc S. at Caulfield last October. First Seal was owned by China Horse Club who tweeted, “All good things come to an end. A truly wonderful mare. Many thanks for all the wonderful memories.” Undoubtedly at her best as a 3-year-old when she was voted NSW Horse of the Year, First Seal retires with a race record of 21-6-6-1 and earnings of $1,249,060.
