The countdown is on towards the first juvenile races at the end of the month, and the buzz about the stock of young stallions always starts early, along with the betting for champion first-season sire. We've been asking a number of horsemen and women for their opinions over recent weeks and today, breeder and TBA board member Anthea Gibson Fleming gives us her view.
TDN: Who do you think will be leading first-season sire?
AGF: The Muhaarar (GB) yearlings were full of quality. It looks a competitive year, but I would go with him. Hot Streak (GB) could have a good season as well.
TDN: Did you see/purchase many by first-season sires at the yearling sales?
AGF: I bought a Free Eagle (Ire) colt foal, and I particularly liked his yearlings, but they will perhaps be for later in the season.
TDN: Which stallion do you think will go on to be the best of this intake?
AGF: Gleneagles (Ire) must have a very good chance.
