Labeled a TDN Rising Star after his impressive 4 1/2-length debut win over six furlongs here June 27, Final Frontier was able to enhance his reputation by passing his first major test in this often-informative staging post. Held up last of the quintet early by Shane Foley, the bay was cajoled forward passing halfway and delivered out wide to gain the lead in a matter of stride approaching the furlong pole. Despite squeezing the slightly unlucky Miss Katie Mae against the rail close home, he was always holding the filly at bay and duly survived the enquiry, with the clear distance to the well-regarded Queen of Sicily underlining the potential strength of the form. “He did that well–Shane said he was asleep for the first half of the race and when he picked him up he almost picked up too quickly for him,” trainer Jessica Harrington commented. “When he got to the front, he was idling and he is definitely going to step up to seven furlongs next time. I'd imagine we'll give him a bit of time and he'll go for the [Sept. 13 G1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien] National S. here. I always thought he was a nice horse.”
