Robbie McNamara, a former highly talented jockey paralysed from the waist down in a fall in Wexford last year made a fairytale transition to his new career as a trainer. Hi s first runner Chadic (GB) (Echo Of Light {GB}) won the opening Mallow Maiden Hurdle at Cork on Friday evening for the Curragh based trainer. The winner, bought out of the Bloomfields Dispersal at Cheltenhamin April for £21,000 is owned by Dr Ronan Lambe and McNamara commented, “I rode an awful lot of winners for Dr Lambe and before I got the fall he said he'd support me when I go training. I can't thank him enough and he has a lovely bunch of six horses in my yard – I have 19 in total and only four of those were ready to run.” McNamara went close to making it a double when Call Vinnie (Ire) (Vinnie Roe {Ire}) finished second in a later race.
