Set to jump away from barriers 10 and 11 respectively, Alizee (Aus) (Sepoy {Aus}) and Champagne Cuddles (Aus) (Not A Single Doubt {Aus}) appear on paper to be the class runners in Saturday's G1 Flight S. (1600m) at Royal Randwick. Having finished one-two the G2 Tea Rose S. (1400m) when they last clashed, with Alizee taking victory by a length and a quarter on that occasion, Champagne Cuddles has since raced again, finishing second behind Trapeze Artist (Aus) in last weekend's G1 Golden Rose.
Both capable of sprinting hard when it matters, the winner may purely come from whom ever may get the better run in transit, and with that in mind, Alizee should prove the hardest to beat. A half-sister to G1 Golden Rose winner Astern (Aus), the Godolphin-raced filly could give trainer James Cummings' his first elite level victory in the blue silks, but Bjorn Baker's battle hardened filly Champagne Cuddles who will be racing for the third consecutive Saturday also has pedigree on her side, her dam being a winner of the G1 Emirates S. (1600m).
If the winner doesn't come from the top-rated pair, it could be the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Pandemonium (Aus) (Sebring {Aus}), a winner of back to back races before a disappointing effort last time out behind Alizee after missing the start. With Joao Moreira in the saddle, the filly should be able to jump cleanly from barrier three, and with a win over the mile already, if she's allowed to slow the tempo mid-race, the filly may prove very hard to get past when the whips are cracking.
Impressive over 1500m at her most recent run when winning by three plus lengths, the Clarry Conners-trained Legal Girl (Aus) (Star Witness {Aus}) is one to keep an eye on. Out of the Listed Tasmanian Oaks (2100m) winner Las Fantastique (Aus), the filly is on the path to the G1 VRC Oaks in Melbourne and while this appears a stepping stone to her ultimate aim, there is no reason to think she can't perform here.
