6th-TOK, ¥14,880,000 ($92k), Newcomers, 2yo, 1400mT
DEMIAN (c, 2, Flightline–Mira Alta, by Curlin) continues the coming-out party for his highly anticipated first-crop sire (by Tapit) and has attracted the visiting Damian Lane for the debut. A $1.7-million purchase out of last year's Keeneland September Sale, the Feb. 6 foal is a half-brother to four winners, including 2021 GIII Peter Pan Stakes hero Promise Keeper (Constitution) from the same sire line as well as SW & GSP Wicked Awesome (Awesome Again) and GSP War Stopper (Declaration of War). “He was just so relaxed back there the whole time we were showing him,” Warrendale Sales' Hunter Simms told TDN's Jill Williams during the opening session of the auction. “We showed him over 220 times over the last three days and he handled everything with class. He was just such a great individual to be around.” Mira Alta is a daughter of SW & GSP Zenith (Roy), dam of GISW Great Hunter (Aptitude) and granddam of MGSW & GISP Owendale (Into Mischief) and recent GI La Troienne Stakes-winning 'TDN Rising Star' presented by Hagyard Shred the Gnar (Into Mischief). This is also the female family of champion Stellar Wind (Curlin). O-Naohiro Sakaguchi; B-Rock Ridge Thoroughbreds LLC (KY); T-Makoto Saito

EIFER RAPID (f, 2, Jackie's Warrior–Farsighted, by Bernardini) debuts for trainer Hideyuki Mori, especially adept with his handling of US-bred imports into Japan. The chestnut, a $150,000 KEESEP purchase, is set to become the second starter for her stakes-winning dam, a daughter of the Grade III-placed Elusive Fate (Elusive Quality). The filly's stakes-winning and black-type producing third dam Clear Destiny (Deputy Minister) was a half-sister to GISW Gemologist (Tiznow). REGARDER (c, 2, Munnings–Vaudevillian, by Distorted Humor), knocked down to these connections for $200,000 at KEESEP, is out of an unplaced half-sister to Life At Ten (Malibu Moon), winner of the GI Beldame Stakes and GI Ogden Phipps Handicap en route to earning nearly $1.3 million. A May 7 foal, Regarder is set to be ridden by the timeless Yutaka Take. O-Makoto Kato; B-PTK LLC (KY); T-Kazuya Nakatake
12th-TOK, ¥15,620,000 ($97k), Allowance, 3yo/up, 1400m
EGYPTIAN MAU (JPN) (f, 3, American Pharoah–Heavenhasmynikki, by Majestic Warrior) made a single trip to the races at two, a 1 1/4-length success beneath Tom Marquand going a mile at this venue. The chestnut is one of two Japanese winners for her Ohio-bred dam, who posted a career high in the GIII Vagrancy Stakes and was purchased by Katsumi Yoshida for $775,000 at the 2021 Fasig-Tipton November Sale. The foal the mare was carrying at the time is the American-bred and -foaled Sylph's Mischief (Into Mischief), who has saluted twice in the country.
