Flying Artie (Aus) (Artie Schiller) has been ruled out of Saturday's G1 Newmarket H. with a low level lung infection, according to Racing.com. The 3-year-old's Mick Price-trained stablemate and fellow China Horse Club colourbearer Extreme Choice (Aus) (Not A Single Doubt {Aus}) will be subbed in for the A$1.25-million race.
“He worked at 6 a.m. and I was happy with his gallop but when I saw the horse at 9 a.m. we had an issue,” Price told Racing.com on Tuesday. “He was scoped and it was detected that he has a low-level lung infection. This requires treatment and three days rest in the paddock where he can get his head down on some green grass. It is not ideal mid preparation and disappointing that we will miss the Newmarket, but I'm still hopeful he can head to Sydney for the TJ Smith S. [on Apr. 9].”
Joao Moreira, who was set to ride Flying Artie, will now replace Craig Newitt aboard Extreme Choice, who looks to bounce back from a first-up third in the G1 Oakleigh Plate.
