Let go at 14-1, the dark bay stalked the pace from close range going into the turn and moved to the fore at the top of the lane. Kicking well clear in the stretch, Superior Status got leg-weary late but held sway by 1 1/4 lengths over odds-on favorite Big Gray Rocket (Tapit), who got completely left at the gate and made a huge run from there to finish a flying second.
