Forever Unbridled justified even-money favoritism with an easy as can be victory in the Beldame. Saving ground in a dual fifth, the bay bided her time as GI Test S. winner Paola Queen (Flatter) clocked early fractions of :24.34 and :49.03 while pressed along by fellow GI Mother Goose S. heroine Off the Tracks (Curlin). Tipped out four wide to launch a bid turning for home, the Charles Fipke homebred swiftly took command in early stretch and splashed clear to win as she pleased.
“This filly, I think there's more to come, I really do,” remarked winning conditioner Dallas Stewart, who added that he almost vanned the winner back to Kentucky earlier this week due to the wet forecast. “I just think she's going to get better and better and hopefully we'll get to run her next year. She's just a great race mare. She's tough, she really is. So long as she comes back good and everything's good [she'll run in the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff Nov. 4]. It's a great race and we're going to be right in there with them and give them a fight. There's going to be a lot of tough [horses] in there, and she's one of them.”
Forever Unbridled spent the first half of her sophomore season chasing MGISW I'm a Chatterbox (Munnings) around the Fair Grounds and finished off the board in both the GI Kentucky Oaks and GII Raven Run S. Closing out 2015 on a winning note in the GIII Comely S. at Aqueduct Nov. 28, the bay followed suit with a win in the GIII Houston Ladies Classic S. Jan. 30 and achieved a career high with a decisive score in Oaklawn's GI Apple Blossom H. Apr. 15. Runner-up to “TDN Rising Star” Cavorting (Bernardini), who has been dominating the East Coast distaff division all year, in the GI Ogden Phipps S. at Belmont June 11, the 4-year-old finished a close third behind that rival and MGISW Curalina (Curlin) in Saratoga's GI Personal Ensign S. on the GI Travers S. undercard Aug. 27.
Pedigree Notes:
Stewart bought the winner's dam Lemons Forever for $140,000 as a yearling at Keeneland September and he campaigned her along with Willis Horton to a 47-1 upset in the 2006 GI Kentucky Oaks. She was retired in the summer of 2007 and was purchased by Fipke for $2.5 million at that year's Keeneland November sale. Forever Unbridled's year older full-sister Unbridled Forever followed a victory in Saratoga's Shine Again S. last summer with a late-running score in that venue's GI Ballerina S. and has been on the shelf since. A half-sister to Curlin S. third-place finisher Forever d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro), Forever Unbridled has a yearling half-brother by Medaglia d'Oro and a weanling half-sister by that Darley sire. Lemons Forever was bred back to Medaglia d'Oro again this spring.
