Found's Sister Wins the Give Thanks

After winning the Listed Staffrordstown S. over a mile at The Curragh in October, Best In the World who is a full-sister to her stable's prolific top-level filly Found failed to find her feet earlier this season with an unpromising fourth placing in Navan's Listed Salsabil S. Apr. 17 followed by an even less remarkable effort when last of seven in York's G3 Musidora S. over 10 furlongs May 11. Third over this track and trip in the June 12 G3 Munster Oaks, the bay was sixth dropped to nine furlongs for The Curragh's G2 Kilboy Estate S. last time July 17. In rear early, the 12-1 shot was delivered wide in the straight to wear down her better-fancied stablemate Somehow in the final yards as the G1 English and Irish Oaks third Harlequeen was undone by racing too keenly early.

Aidan O'Brien, who is managing to prize big-race wins out of all his classy 3-year-old fillies in turn in 2016, was not surprised by the way the race unfolded. “We liked her, but she disappointed in the Musidora and got locked in and got no run in her last race,” he explained, “She was back to a mile and a half on nicer ground with pace on here and may be on the way back now. She could go for the [G1] Yorkshire Oaks [at York Aug. 18] and drop in and take her time in that race, while we'll try and win a group race with Somehow, who has a load of ability but probably doesn't kill herself when she gets to the front.”

Red Evie, who took an amazing winning sequence into the G1 Matron S. as a 3-year-old and carried it on there before returning to beat the colts in the G1 Lockinge S. the following year, has been exclusively mated with Galileo so far with profound effects. After the G3 CL Weld Park S. winner and G1 Moyglare Stud S. fourth Magical Dream, she gave the world Found, who may be unfortunate to have just the two victories at the highest level in the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac and GI Breeders' Cup Turf. Her latest narrow defeat in Royal Ascot's G1 Prince of Wales's S. was her seventh runner-up finish in that sphere and she is not done yet. Best In the World could be named after her sire, who has a keenly-anticipated yearling colt to come out of this potentially world-class broodmare.
