Mike Moreno began the evening owning a reported 70 percent of Better Than Honour (12, Deputy Minister) and left Fasig-Tipton last night as the 100-percent owner of the Broodmare of the Year, the dam of back-to-back Belmont S. winners Jazil (Seeking the Gold) and Rags to Riches (A.P. Indy). When the smoke cleared after a remarkably rapid bidding process, the tote read $14 million, a new world record. “The price the mare made was fantastic, she was deserving of that,” said Hill 'n' Dale's John Sikura. “At some point you feel a little emotional, but it was great business.”
