A new chapter was written in the extraordinary success story of the first crop of Frankel (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) on Sunday when the Juddmonte stallion posted his first winner in Japan.
Making her debut at Sapporo, his regally-bred daughter Soul Stirring (Jpn), out of the six-time Group/Grade 1 winner Stacelita (Fr) (Monsun {Ger}), made a late thrust for glory to win by a neck in the 1800-metre newcomers' race.
Bred by Teruya Yoshida's Shadai Farm, Soul Stirring is the second foal of Stacelita. Her half-sister Southern Stars (GB) (Smart Strike {Can}) won over 10 furlongs for John Gosden at Sandown in April, bearing the Yoshida colours. Stacelita's dam, Soignee (Ger) (Dashing Blade {GB}), also visited Frankel in his first year at stud and the resulting foal is named Speralita (Fr), who has yet to start.
Frankel has now sired nine winners from just 12 runners, eight of which have won on debut. Soul Stirring was his second runner and first winner in Japan, and Toulifaut (Ire) won at Clairefontaine on Jul. 9 to become her sire's first French winner. The Juddmonte-bred Fair Eva (GB), who is unbeaten in two starts, holds the distinction of being Frankel's first stakes winner, having won the G3 Juddmonte Princess Margaret S. at Ascot nine days ago.
The Ger Lyons-trained Qatar Bloodstock homebred Lightening Fast (GB), out of the G1 Cheveley Park S. winner Lightening Pearl (Ire) (Marju {Ire}), runs in today's Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Naas (4.25pm) and is second-favourite to add her name to the winners' tally after her eighth-place finish at The Curragh on Jul. 16.
