Stepping up in trip after opening her account over six furlongs at Hamilton Sept. 24, East (GB) (Frankel {GB}) became the latest Northern English juvenile to successfully carry off a prestigious French prize as she proved best in Friday's G3 Prix Thomas Byron Jockey Club de Turquie at Saint-Cloud. Tracking fellow filly Pure Zen (Fr) (Zoffany {Ire}) in third under Stephane Pasquier, the 7-1 shot was trapped momentarily turning for home as the backmarkers made their move but when wound up quickly swooped on the leaders passing the 300-metre marker. Surging clear with zest, the bay hit the line the 2 1/2-length winner from Pretty Boy (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}), with Pure Zen a half length away in third. “This filly gave me a very good impression and travelled very nicely,” her jockey said. “When I moved her to the outside, she showed a very powerful acceleration and that is the sign of a good one.”
East, who topped the Goresbridge Flat Breeze-Up Sale when snapped up for €315,000 by Stephen Hillen, is a daughter of the Listed Dick Poole Fillies' S. scorer and G3 Princess Margaret S. runner-up Vital Statistics (GB) (Indian Ridge {Ire}). Her yearling full-brother to the winner was bought by the same connections for €400,000 at Goffs Orby on Tuesday, while she also has a filly foal by Acclamation (GB). Her G2 Flying Childers S.-placed dam Emerald Peace (Ire) (Green Desert) is a granddaughter of the G1 Cheveley Park S.-winning champion Pass the Peace (Ire) (Alzao) who produced one in her own image in Embassy (GB) (Cadeaux Genereux {GB}) who emulated that achievement herself, and also the G2 Pretty Polly S. scorer Tarfshi (GB) (Mtoto {GB}).
