Straight Shooter received overwhelming support at the tills for this newcomers' test and justified odds-on favouritism with a blistering frontrunning display. The €400,000 ARAUG yearling was sharply away to seize immediate control and held sway under a taut rein into the straight. Nudged along to show his mettle approaching the final furlong, the 2-5 chalk surged clear under minimal coaxing in the closing stages to easily account for Zaryio (Fr) (Rio de la Plata) by seven lengths.
The May-foaled chestnut is a half-brother to G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere-winning sire Naaqoos (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}), G3 Prix La Force-winning sire Barastraight (GB) (Barathea {Ire}) and Listed Prix de l'Avre third Sizing Stars (GB) (Sea the Stars {Ire}). He is also kin to a yearling filly by Invincible Spirit (Ire) and to the unraced Straight Miss (Ire) (In the Wings {GB}), who produced G3 Prix de Cabourg victor Mazameer (Ire) (Green Desert) and is the granddam of MGSP Listed Criterium du Languedoc winner Calling Out (Fr) (Martaline {GB}). Straight Shooter shares his second dam Gay Hellene (Ire) (Ela-Mana-Mou {Ire}) with G1 Metropolitan H. hero Sir John Hawkwood (Ire) (Sir Percy {GB}) and shares his G1 Irish 1000 Guineas-winning third dam Gaily (Sir Gaylord) with European champion and MG1SW sire Pilsudski (Ire) (Polish Precedent).
