Highclere Thoroughbred Racing's Foundation (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) is bound for the G1 Prix du Jockey Club June 5 on the back of his third-place finish behind stablemate Wings Of Desire (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) in the G2 Dante S. at York May 12. In that contest, last year's G2 Royal Lodge S. winner was trapped in the lane and, once getting out late, made up ground to hit the board.
“He ran a great race,” said Highclere Chairman Harry Herbert.
“Unfortunately, [jockey] William [Buick] wasn't able to extricate himself when he needed to, but he ran very well and was only beaten 1 3/4 lengths by the winner.”
“William felt we should stick to a mile and a quarter, for the time being, and the French Derby looks a very good target for him” Herbert added. “It will be very exciting for everyone involved to have a runner in the French Derby–I don't think Highclere have ever had a runner in the race before–so we'll certainly look forward to that.”
