Laurel Park will host a stakes schedule of 22 races worth $2.2 million in purses during its upcoming winter meet, highlighted by the GII Barbara Fritchie S. and GIII General George S. Feb. 18, the track announced Monday. Laurel Park's 56-day winter meet runs Sunday, Jan. 1 through Sunday, May 7.
The Fritchie and General George anchor a six-stakes program on the Feb. 18 card, while there will also be a five-stakes card Mar. 18. The stakes program concludes Apr. 22 with five more stakes headed by the Federico Tesio S. and Weber City Miss S., a pair of nine-furlong stakes for sophomores that serve as “Win and You're In” qualifiers for the May 20 GI Preakness S. and May 19 GII Black Eyed Susan S., respectively.
“Thoroughbred racing continues to build momentum in the state of Maryland and Mid-Atlantic region,” said Sal Sinatra, President and General Manager of the Maryland Jockey Club. “Handle on Maryland racing continues to climb due to the great support of fans and horsemen across the country as well as the availability of our product at additional off-track betting facilities throughout the state.”
