Godolphin Racing's Frosted (Tapit), last seen dominating the GI Metropolitan H. by 14 1/4 lengths in stakes record time, tops a short, but sweet field for Saturday's GI Whitney S. at Saratoga. Installed as the 3-5 morning-line favorite, the Kiaran McLaughlin trainee drew post four and will be piloted by regular jockey Joel Rosario.
“He couldn't be doing any better,” commented McLaughlin, who was happy with drawing post four. “He's matured so much from three to four, he's just doing fabulous. The Met Mile was a fabulous race because it showed how versatile he is. He wins at a mile and was second in the [GI] Belmont at a mile and a half. He won the [GI] Wood Memorial at 1 1/8 miles, so we feel confident that he'll be able to get two turns.”
Last term's GI Clark H. hero Effinex (Mineshaft), who enters off a successful title defense in the GII Suburban H. July 9, is the second-choice on the morning-line at 7-2. The Tri-Bone Stables runner will exit post six with Hall of Famer Mike Smith in the irons. Rounding out the field is Grade I winner Noble Bird (Birdstone), MGSWs Upstart (Flatter) and El Kabeir (Scat Daddy) and recent State Dinner S. winner Comfort (Indian Charlie).
