Ger Lyons scratched his exciting 2-year-old Psychedelic Funk (GB) (Choisir {Aus}) out of the Listed Coolmore War Command Rochstown S. at Naas last Sunday and will now point the colt directly to the G2 Coventry S. at Ascot.
“I took a temperature, it was nothing serious, but enough to dissuade me from running ,” reported Lyons. “There was everything to lose and nothing to gain–two weeks away is the most important date and that's what we'll keep him for.”
Psychedelic Funk carries the colours of one of Lyons's main owners, Sean Jones, and the colt has made a huge impression in two outings, most recently handing previous winner Ambiguity (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) a six-length beating at Naas May 11. Ger Lyons tasted Royal Ascot success with Elletelle (Ire) (Elnadim) in the G2 Queen Mary S. back in 2007 and he hasn't hidden his admiration of Psychedelic Funk, a £30,000 yearling purchase at Goffs UK last August.
“He's the best we've had at this stage,” added Lyons. “He's very straightforward and when Aidan [O'Brien] comes up to you and is high on him, you know you've a nice colt,” added Lyons.
