OTI Racing has reported that its 2015 G1 Mackinnon S. winner Gailo Chop (Fr) (Deportivo {GB}) is set to return to training after almost a year out through injury.

Formerly trained in France by Antione de Watrigant, the 6-year-old will resume his career in Australia under the care of Victoria's champion trainer Darren Weir.

Gailo Chop suffered a tendon injury when finishing down the field behind Postponed (Ire) in last year's G1 Dubai Sheema Classic and has been undergoing rehabilitation in Australia since then.

OTI principal Terry Henderson told racing.com, “He's about four weeks away from going down to Weiry's stable at Warrnambool. I think the beach will suit the horse.

“He's been through a tendon rehabilitation process with Lee Evison at Longwarry and all the signs are good. He's in the final stages of his recovery but, fingers crossed, he'll be back racing in the spring.”

Bred at Haras des Faunes by Alain Chopard, in whose colours he initially raced, Gailo Chop won seven races in his native county––four at Group level including the G2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano at Deauville––before embarking on his world travels for the OTI syndicate.
