Gains At Cheltenham Sale

The Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham November Sale returned its second-highest price ever on Friday when six-length maiden point-to-point winner Know The Score (Ire) (Flemensfirth) was sold to trainer David Pipe for £380,000.

“I loved the horse,” said Pipe of lot 30. “He was very impressive when he won his maiden and was quite an expensive store at the Derby Sale. He is by a fantastic sire and has a real good pedigree. He has been bought for the Angove Family who have Poker Play running here tomorrow at Cheltenham.”

Taking second-top billing on the day was Good Man Jim (Fr) (Martaline {GB}) (lot 21), a 14-length winner of a maiden point-to-point on Oct. 29. The 4-year-old gelding was selected by Roger Brookhouse for £360,000.

Key figures for the sale were all well up, the aggregate climbing 82% to £3,712,000, the average 37% to £90,537 and the median 20% to £60,000.

Richard Pugh, Director of Horse in Training Sales at Tattersalls Ireland, said, “In the past few weeks, Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham Sale graduates have been enjoying a particularly rich vein of form and more notably from horses who have been through the ring here in recent times; Finian's Oscar has exploded onto track since being purchased at this sale just 12 months previous, a winner today at Cheltenham and winning a total of six races since purchase, two of those Grade 1's and two listed. On The Blindside, purchased in this sales ring at the February Sale, remains unbeaten and won the G2 Ballymore Novices' Hurdle here today also. It was apparent in the days and weeks leading up to the sale that we had assembled another very strong bunch of horses and the combination of continued confidence in the product we have been selling along with a notable collection of horses has led to extremely strong trade. Irish Pointers have proven hugely popular but we have also seen fierce demand for French horses and we look forward to following their successful careers on racecourses.”
