Like Part I of the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale staged on Tuesday and Wednesday, Thursday's Part II of the sale yielded significant gains in all categories. From a catalogue 40 horses larger than last year, 207 lots were sold for €2,093,800, compared to 146 sold for €1,118,400 last year. Despite the larger offering the buyback rate halved, ending at 14.5%. The average of €10,115 was up 32%, while the median rose 45% to €8,000.
A Rock Of Gibraltar (Ire) colt from the esteemed Aga Khan Stud family of Shahrastani and this year's G2 Blandford S. winner Shamreen (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) (lot 630) was the top-priced lot at €60,000. The half-brother to two winners from four to race from the dam was bought from Knockatrina Stud by EP Horse, whose representative Pat Moyles said, “He was our pick today, he was a stand out. He's a fine, scopey colt. We have paid a little more than anticipated, but let's hope he's lucky. He is for an existing client to race in Ireland.”
Two more yearlings crossed the €50,000 mark during the session. The first was a colt from the first crop of Xtension (Ire) (lot 527) who is a half to four winners. Willie Browne signed the ticket at €58,000 as Jamie B Bloodstock. He was offered by Rathbarry Stud, which stands the sire. Later, a Dandy Man (Ire) filly from Baroda and Colbinstown Studs (lot 680) realized €50,000 from Curragh trainer Takashi Kodama, who had bought her on spec.
“I really liked her as an individual,” said Kodama. “I thought she was the nicest filly here. I will train her, but now I need an owner.”
