Galileo's Anthony Van Dyck Takes the Tyros

Despite having to navigate troubled waters as a bug infects parts of the Ballydoyle armada, Anthony Van Dyck (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) was a faithful steer for Ryan Moore as he handed Aidan O'Brien a 12th win in resounding fashion in the G3 Japan Racing Association Tyros S. at Leopardstown. Stepping up off a debut seventh over this seven-furlong trip at The Curragh July 1 when scoring by eight lengths over a mile at Killarney two weeks later, the 8-11 favourite followed the pace-setting Bolger representative Copia Verborum (Ire) (Vocalised) until sent on approaching the furlong pole. Stretching clear, the bay veered right late on but was in total command as he registered an authoritative 4 3/4-length success from the long-time leader's stablemate Bold Approach (Ire) (Dawn Approach {Ire}). “We always thought this horse would love going a mile and he won very easy and went to the line very strong at Killarney, so we couldn't be more impressed with this,” O'Brien said. “It means he can stay at seven now–he doesn't have to move up. We always thought he was a high-class horse and a real middle-distance horse for next year, but when they show that kind of class it's usually a very good sign. I'll talk to the lads, but I would imagine it will be the [G2] Futurity [at The Curragh Aug. 26] and then the [G1 Goffs Vincent O'Brien] National S. [at The Curragh Sept. 16]. He travelled great and Ryan was impressed.”

Anthony Van Dyck is the last known foal out of the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude winner Believe'N'Succeed (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}), which makes him a half-brother to the G1 Railway S. and five-times group-winning New Zealand champion sprinter Bounding (Aus) (Lonhro {Aus}). Believe'N'Succeed is a full-sister to the G2 Mittys Ian McEwen Trophy and G3 Blue Diamond Prelude-winning Kuroshio (Aus) whose first crop have taken off in Europe descended from November Snow (Storm Cat) who was the winner of the GI Alabama S. and GI Test S. She is also the second dam of the GI Carter H., GII Pennsylvania Derby and GII Mervyn LeRoy H.-winning sire Morning Line (Tiznow).
