Galileo's Hydrangea Toughs It Out In the 1000 Trial

Initial indications are that the Ballydoyle 3-year-olds are more forward than in recent years and Hydrangea and the unexposed Winter provided another one-two for the stable here to match that of the 2000 Trial earlier on the card. Granite-tough when runner-up in the G2 Debutante S. and G1 Moyglare S. over seven furlongs at The Curragh in August and September and in the G1 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket the following month, the game bay who was last seen finishing at the tail of the 14 runners in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf was ridden typically forward from the outset by Padraig Beggy and wound up second with the pace furious. Left in front at the top of the straight, she battled hard to ward off Rehana and then stablemate Winter out wider to prevail. “She's a tough filly and she deserves that,” her rider commented. “I've ridden her at home and she saves a bit for herself, then comes alive in her races. That was a proper-run seven-furlong race.” Aidan O'Brien added, “She's a good filly with good form and she got an excellent ride. They all ran well and will come on.”

Beauty Is Truth, who was successful over five furlongs in the G2 Prix du Gros-Chene, served instant notice that she was to become a broodmare of even greater merit by producing the similarly-speedy Fire Lily who captured the G3 Phoenix Sprint S., G3 Ballyogan S. and G3 Anglesey S. and was runner-up in the G1 Moyglare Stud S. and G1 Prix Marcel Boussac. Remarkably, her second foal was The United States, Galileo's slow-burner who turned fair form for Ballydoyle into Antipodean riches by winning the G1 Ranvet S. The second dam, the G3 Prix du Bois winner Zelding, is also responsible for Glorious Sight (Ire) (Singspiel {Ire}) who was placed in the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and G1 Prix de Diane, while the third dam Zelda is a half-sister to the GI Breeders' Cup Mile hero, champion sprinter and leading sire Last Tycoon (Ire). She herself threw the G2 Prix Robert Papin winner and MG1SP Zipping (Ire) (Zafonic), with other celebrities from this dynasty being the G1 Coronation S. and G1 Prix Jacques le Marois heroine Immortal Verse (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) and a pair of G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winners in Valentine Waltz (Ire) (Be My Guest) and Tie Black (Ire) (Machiavellian). Unsurprisingly, Beauty Is Truth has become the sole possession of Galileo and she has a 2-year-old colt and yearling filly by the great sire to come.
