Hot property after inflicting defeat on Sunday's G1 Prix Marcel Boussac-winning Ballydoyle (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G1 Moyglare Stud S. over seven furlongs at The Curragh Sept. 13, Minding stepped up again to demolish some smart opposition in this intriguing renewal and place herself at the top of the pecking order for Europe's 2-year-old fillies. Second on debut to the well-regarded Tanaza (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) over seven at Leopardstown June 11, the bay had showed an abundance of pace to break her maiden by 5 1/2 lengths dropped a furlong returning to that venue a fortnight later before taking time out. Two-lengths second to Ballydoyle on her comeback in the G2 Debutante S. over seven furlongs at The Curragh Aug. 22 before reversing that form in a strong edition of the Moyglare, she provided a masterclass on this first overseas foray to suggest she will take all the beating in the mile Classic back here in the spring. Tracking the G2 Rockfel S. scorer Promising Run (Hard Spun) up the center of the track as Hawksmoor dominated early proceedings far side, Minding was wound up by Ryan Moore as the pace collapsed in front passing the quarter pole. Striking out approaching the last furlong, she was soon clear and beyond recall as Nathra chased and hit the line strong with a field of classy fillies strung out behind. “I don't think she could have been more impressive,” her jockey said. “She traveled beautifully and I was cantering the whole way. I thought Godolphin's would be the one to have my eye on, but she couldn't take her any further with 2 1/2 remaining and as soon as I pulled her out she just powered up the hill. She's a lovely-moving filly and one to look forward to next year.” Aidan O'Brien added, “She's a lovely filly. She travels and quickens and has always shown she's a very high-class filly. She had a break before she went to the Debutante, that was her first run back and we knew she'd handle an ease in the ground better than Ballydoyle. They're both very high-class fillies. I was listening to Joseph and Ryan talking before the race and Joseph described this filly to Ryan as an Irish Guineas/Pretty Polly filly.” Supplemented for this test, Nathra gave connections justification for that move and trainer John Gosden was making no excuses afterwards. “Obviously the winner is truly exceptional and it's hard to see her not being champion two-year-old filly of Europe,” he commented. “It was no disgrace for us, she ran a fabulous race coming from last but she had no answer to the winner's acceleration. We're really happy with her and happy we supplemented her.”
