The Grey Gatsby (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}–Marie Vison {Ire}, by Entrepreneur {GB}), a MG1SW, has been purchased by Haras du Petit Tellier for stallion duty in France, reported Racing Post. The deal was brokered by Richard Venn. Syndication of the 6-year-old is underway, with around 20-25 shares being sold for €18,000 each, giving the shareholder two nominations in the first three seasons, with further incentives given for keep and insurance. The Grey Gatsby will stand for €7,000.
A four-time highweight in England (2), France (1) and Ireland (1) and thrice as a sophomore, The Grey Gatsby raced for Frank Gillespie and trainer Dermot Weld. A winner of both the 2014 G1 Prix du Jockey Club and G1 QIPCO Irish Champion S., the grey was placed an additional five times at the highest level, retiring with four wins from 28 starts and earnings of $4, 290,448.
Bred by M. Parrish in Ireland, The Grey Gatsby, out of listed-placed Marie Vision, was an €120,000 Arqana Breeze-Up Sale purchase by Stephen Hillen for Gillespie. He counts G1 Prix de la Salamandre heroine Maximova (Fr) (Green Dancer) as his third dam. This is also the family of Group 1 winners Septieme Ciel (Seattle Slew) and Macoumba (Mr. Prospecter). Macoumba is the dam of successful U.S. sire Malibu Moon (A.P. Indy).
“The Grey Gatsby was a wonderful racehorse with good conformation and temperament, just a very well balanced individual,” Haras du Petit Tellier's Patrick Chedeville told Racing Post. “He will be a valuable new stallion in France from the Danehill line, which is not seen in France as much as in the rest of Europe, especially in Ireland.”
