+MORGANITE (f, 2, Gemologist–Crazy Woman Creek, by Wild Rush) seemed chilly on the tote at 8-1, but outran her odds with a professional first-out score in this live-looking maiden field for the powerful connections of Hronis Racing and John Sadler. First out of the gate under Victor Espinoza, the big bay dropped back one spot to stalk the pace of longshot Lovely Linda (Stay Thirsty) in between rivals through a :22.41 quarter-mile. Moving to tackle that foe at the top of the lane, Morganite opened up past the eighth pole and held sway late over favored firster Champagne Room (Broken Vow) by 1 1/2 lengths. The winner, a $95,000 KEESEP yearling in the fall, brought $360,000 at OBS March after breezing one furlong in :10 flat (video). Morganite is the first winner for her freshman sire (by Tiznow), is the most expensive Gemologist juvenile filly to sell so far this year and his second-most expensive 2-year-old overall.
