G1 Coral-Eclipse S. victor Hawkbill (Kitten's Joy), well beaten on his last two outings for Godolphin and trainer Charlie Appleby, could seek another shot at Group 1 glory in Sunday's Preis von Europa in Germany. Hawkbill won Royal Ascot's G3 Tercentenary S. followed by the Coral-Eclipse, and has since been eighth in the G1 Juddmonte International and ninth in the G1 Qipco Irish Champion S. Appleby has said the 4-year-old will have one more start this season, which could come in that 1 1/2-mile test or possibly the G1 Qipco Champion S. Oct. 15.
“He has come out of Ireland well and he will definitely have one more run this year,” the conditioner said. “He traveled into the race better at Leopardstown than he did at York. It was good ground there, maybe just on the easy side of it, but it was not the testing conditions we know he thrives on. There is the option of possibly going to Germany for a Group 1 with him on Sunday. We might take that in, but we will decide later in the week and obviously we will also look at the Champion S.”
