Pressed by a rival to his inside as soon as the gates opened, the $200,000 KEESEP yearling shook off that rival after a first quarter in :22.82 and rolled into the home stretch with a full head of steam, three paths off the pine. Mt Veeder was on cruise control from there, as rivals gave futile chase, and streaked home a daylight winner. Paynes Prairie closed to take place honors. “He's a fast horse and [jockey] Martin [Garcia] just sat on him an dlet him do his job,” said Mike Marlow, assistant trainer to winning conditioner Bob Baffert. “He looked good all the way.
