Less than a week after being crowned last year's Eclipse Champion Older Mare, Ginger Punch (Awesome Again) opened her five-year-old season with a supremely easy win in the Sunshine Millions Distaff at Gulfstream Park. The Stronach homebred, winner of last year's GI Go for Wand H. and GI Ruffian S. had not started since a determined victory in the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff at Monmouth Park Oct. 27. Ginger Punch rated off the pace Saturday at Gulfstream, inhaled the pacesetter turning for home and flew home under wraps.
