Following concerns early on Tuesday over a possible post-op infection Gingernuts (NZ) (Iffraaj {GB}) improved sufficiently throughout the day for vets to release a positive update on the triple Group 1 winner's condition. A temperature spike lead to Gingernuts being transferred back to the University of Melbourne Veterinary Hospital at Werribee on Monday night but David Ellis of ownership syndicate Te Akau Racing was less concerned by Tuesday afternoon. “The vets say he is not any more lame than he should be for a horse who has been operated on and that his temperature has come down again,” Ellis told Racing.com.”That temperature was the concern and the reason he went back to the clinic because they were worried when it went up on Monday and there is always that concern with post-surgery infection. But things are back to normal now, his appetite is good and we are confident he will be fine,” he added.
