Global Feel To Easter Catalogue

Snitzel has 44 catalogued for Easter | Arrowfield

The catalogue for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, set for Apr. 4 to 6 at Newmarket in Sydney, is online and features strong representation from both the country's leading sires and pedigrees as well as global stars like Frankel (GB), Tapit, Sea The Stars (Ire) and Shamardal.

Frankel has three colts catalogued: a son of Precious Lorraine (Aus) (Encosta de Lago {Aus}), herself a daughter of Monsoon Wedding (Aus) (Danehill) from one of the hottest families on the globe (lot 292); a colt out of young stakes winner Lovetorn (Aus) (Giant's Causeway) (lot 210); and a half-brother to Group 1 winner Fenway (Aus) (High Chaparral {Ire}) (lot 102). Tapit has two colts a filly catalogued, including a colt who is the first foal of Grade III winner Euphrosyne (Harlan's Holiday) (lot 122). Epsom Derby winner and sire Sea The Stars has a filly out of Group 3 winner Ready To Lift (Aus) (More Than Ready) catalogued (lot 301), and Shamardal has a colt who is out of a half-sister to Cheveley Park Stud's champion 2-year-old filly Hooray (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) (lot 399).

On the domestic sire front, Snitzel (Aus)–whose A$2.3-million son of Vegas Showgirl (NZ) topped the Easter sale last year–is the leader by number catalogued with 44, ahead of his sire Redoute's Choice (Aus) (36). Sebring (Aus) has 35, Pierro (Aus) 33, Fastnet Rock (Aus) 27 and Medaglia d'Oro 26.

The 480 yearlings set for sale include 129 siblings to stakes winners with 39 of those being siblings to Group 1 winners, including Flying Artie (Aus) (Artie Schiller), Extreme Choice (Aus) (Not A Single Doubt {Aus}), Yankee Rose (Aus) (All American {Aus}), Shooting To Win (Aus) (Northern Meteor {Aus}), Able Friend (Aus) (Shamardal), Werther (NZ) (Tavistock {NZ}), Preferment (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}), Shamus Award (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}), Dundeel (NZ) (High Chaparral {Ire}) and Star Witness (Aus) (Starcraft {NZ}). There are 146 offerings out of stakes-winning mares including 22 out of Group 1 winners. Those include the first foals of Samaready (Aus) (More Than Ready), Secret Admirer (Aus) (Dubawi {Ire}), Gondokoro (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}) and Steps In Time (Aus) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}). There are 304 lots that contain black-type under the first dam.

Inglis National Bloodstock Manager Jonathan D'Arcy described the catalogue as, “truly world-class and representative of the enormous investment that Australasian breeders have put into the bloodstock industry over the past 10 years.''

“Our breeders have sourced some of the best-credentialed young fillies and mares from North America and Europe and bred them to the best stallions in the world,” D'Arcy continued. “This will be a special year to be at Newmarket and I am very proud that we have been entrusted by our clients with this amazing array of top-class yearlings to offer to the market.”

The number catalogued this year is down 100 from 2016, and D'Arcy said, “Inglis has always maintained a strict selection policy with the Easter sale and this year we have trimmed the catalogue to showcase what we feel are 480 of the finest yearlings to be offered in Australasia in 2017.”
