Godolphin Purchases Lightning Moon
Ed Walker trainee and G3 John Guest Bengough S. winner Lightning Moon (Ire) (Shamardal) has been purchased by Godolphin it was announced Tuesday. The deal was brokered by Blandford Bloodstock. Previously owned by M. Betamar, the 4-year-old son of Shamardal is undefeated in three starts to date and was last seen on the racecourse taking the Bengough S. Oct. 4.
“Obviously Lightning Moon appeals for a number of reasons, not only as a son of Shamardal, who is proving to be an exciting sire of sires, but also as an unbeaten top-class sprinter who we believe has his best days ahead of him,” said John Ferguson, Bloodstock Advisor to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed.
Added trainer Ed Walker, “I’m thrilled that Sheikh Mohammed has purchased the colt and, needless to say, I am even more pleased that he is going to remain with us, which is fantastic news for everybody here at Warren Place. It really is a huge honour to be allowed to continue training this colt on behalf of Godolphin. Lightning Moon has been a revelation ever since he came to us. He has a fantastic attitude and is a wonderful physical specimen. The plan is to go to York for his first run and then look at the [G1] Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot, and then the [G1] July Cup back here in Newmarket.”
