Goffs Yearling, HIT Sale Closes

The two-day Goffs Open Yearling and Horses-in-Training sale came to a close on Thursday with the yearling session. The top three lots–a €38,000 Raven's Pass filly (lot 198), a €36,000 Pivotal (GB) filly (lot 242) and a €34,000 Iffraaj (GB) colt (lot 322)–were all consigned by Lumville Farm, and the top two were purchased by Friarstown Stables.

A total of 145 yearlings were sold for €1,037,900, compared to 51 sold for €1,074,000 12 months ago. The buyback rate was down three points to 24%, while the average and median both declined, the average down 9% at €7,158 and the median down 10% at €4,500.

Goffs Chief Executive Henry Beeby said at the close of trade, “For the second time this week Goffs has returned a strong two-day trade for horses-in-training and commercial yearlings. Following a superb trade for horses-in-training at Doncaster on Tuesday, we enjoyed an equally strong horses-in-training market on Wednesday with a larger catalogue, a big rise in the average price and a stunning 90% clearance rate, all headed by a top price of €200,000. As ever we are especially indebted to The Aga Khan Studs for their superb support of this sale and we are just delighted that their faith is consistently rewarded in the sales ring as this was the highest price at this sale for many a year.

“Whilst today's yearlings will not provoke any headlines, there has been plenty of interest throughout the day with no shortage of bidders for those lots that held the most appeal with competition from home and abroad. Indeed, this is a sale that has made significant progress in recent years and regularly exceeds expectations.”

“We are grateful to every vendor and purchaser for their business and now look forward to the market-leading November Foal and Breeding Stock Sale which, of course, is headed by the much anticipated second part of the Wildenstein Stables Ltd Dispersal.”
