Gold Cup Main Aim For 'George'

Order Of St George | Racing Post

Last year's G1 Irish St. Leger winner Order Of St. George (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) is nearing a return to action and has his sights set firmly on Royal Ascot in the middle of June. The 4-year-old was last seen demolishing his rivals by 11 lengths under Joseph O'Brien in that Irish Classic last September in what was his first run at the top level.

“He's back in full work and the plan is to get a run into him before Royal Ascot where the G1 Ascot Gold Cup will be his target,” said trainer Aidan O'Brien. “We might start him back in the Saval Beg at Leopardstown or the Vintage Crop at Navan.”

O'Brien won last year's Listed Saval Beg S. with Kingfisher (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who subsequently ran a slightly unlucky second to Trip To Paris (Ire) (Champs Elysees {GB}) in the Ascot Gold Cup. The 5-year-old is also back in full work with O'Brien.

“We're waiting for better ground before running Kingfisher and he'll also be aimed at some of the top staying races,” concluded O'Brien.
