The annual cricket match between Lord March Racing XI and the Lord's Taverners following racing on the first day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival will be staged in memory of the late racing journalist Alan Lee, who passed away in December 2015.

The “Alan Lee Memorial Trophy,” scheduled for Tuesday, July 26, 2016, will have the same 20/20 format as previous years. The public are invited to attend the match which will take place in front of Goodwood House.

Said Lord March: “Alan Lee was a huge supporter of Goodwood and obviously loved his cricket both personally and professionally. He will be hugely missed by everyone who knew him and in terms of the cricket he was always spotted on the boundary chatting to the players. We felt that the Alan Lee Memorial Trophy was an appropriate way of remembering him and we are delighted that his children Vicky and James will be our guests for racing and will present the trophy.”

Mike Atherton, The Times cricket correspondent and colleague of Alan Lee, commented: “I think this is a fitting memorial to a fine journalist and a man who loved both cricket and horse racing.”

Alan Lee's daughter, Vicky, commented: “Dad loved Goodwood and obviously loved cricket as well so we are all thrilled that Goodwood have honoured his memory with the cricket match on Tuesday 26 July being played for the Alan Lee Memorial Trophy. James and I are looking forward to presenting the trophy.”
