Trainer John Gosden, OBE, has been appointed to the board of The National Stud in Newmarket as a non-executive director beginning on Jan. 1, 2018, The Jockey Club announced Tuesday. Gosden, who has trained over 100 Group winners, is the ninth member of the board at the Stud, the breeding and education arm of The Jockey Club. The Duke of Roxburghe replaced Ben Sangster as Chairman of The National Stud on New Year's Day, as well.
“We are delighted to welcome a horseman of John's calibre to the board and I know his expertise will prove invaluable to the team,” said The Duke of Roxburghe. “He is hugely respected in racing and bloodstock circles and to be able to draw upon his knowledge, experience and considerable talent is a coup for The National Stud. We are all very much looking forward to working with him.”
“The National Stud is an important constituent of and contributor to British racing and breeding,” said the two-time champion British Flat Trainer. “I am, therefore, greatly looking forward to joining this vibrant and committed board.”
The National Stud also announced that stud manager Tim Lane has been promoted to the role of stud director, while non-executive director Philip Mitchell, who has been fulfilling the role of stud general manager, will continue as a consultant for the duration of the upcoming breeding season, before returning to his non-executive directorial duties in July of 2018.
