Ground To Determine Galileo Gold Plans

Hugo Palmer, trainer of Galileo Gold | Racing Post

Last year's G2 Vintage S. winner Galileo Gold (GB) (Paco Boy {Ire}) will have entries in the English, Irish and French 2000 Guineas, with ground conditions determining where the Al Shaqab colorbearer runs, according to trainer Hugo Palmer.

“We are going to prepare him for a Guineas and he will have entries in all three,” Palmer said. “He does not want fast ground and he will run where the ground is most suitable for him. The

great thing is you don't have to enter prep races early so we can make a call at the beginning of April.”

Palmer suggested Galileo Gold may make his Guineas run first-up.

“We will just see if he needs a run, as all horses are different,” the trainer said. “He has always been quite a clean-winded horse so my guess is that he probably won't go for one.”

Galileo Gold made five starts last year for three wins, and was purchased by Al Shaqab after his second win at Haydock July 2. He won the Vintage next out and wrapped up his season with a third in the G1 Jean-Luc Lagardere Oct. 4. Palmer said the chestnut has progressed physically over the winter months.

“Physically, the horse has done unbelievably well from two to three,” he said. “He was a very leggy 2-year-old, but he has now come right down the legs and has put 70 kilograms on. He has done really well and I am just absolutely delighted with him.”
