Volta (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}), the winner of last year's G2 Prix de Sandringham and placed in both the G1 Prix de Diane Longines and G1 Prix Rothschild, died Saturday morning after suffering a heart attack while training. Campaigned in the colours of Ecurie Salabi, she was trained by Francis Graffard, who wrote on his Facebook page: “We are all distraught following the loss of Volta. Every member of the team feels her loss keenly. My thoughts go out in particular to her rider, Marina, who was badly shaken, but thankfully not seriously hurt. We have been overwhelmed by kind messages in the last 24 hours.”

“Volta brought us so much joy and through her we shared some fantastic wins, some disappointments and some hard-fought, gutsy losses that only elevated her standing in our eyes. Volta was full of life, she was talented, she was sometimes temperamental, she was regal in her regard, often full of disdain when staring down a rival, or a newly arrived stable mate who dared catch her eye. When she performed, like so many of the wonderful Thoroughbreds that grace our lives, she made us all feel alive.”
