Handed sole responsibility for bearing the Ballydoyle standard following the withdrawal of last year's G1 Criterium International winner Johannes Vermeer (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Black Sea continued the solid start to the current season by his stable when coming out on top in a tight finale. Following a comfortable maiden win over seven furlongs at The Curragh 13 days with a third placing behind Blue de Vega (Ger) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) in the G3 Killavullan S. over this course and distance in October, the bay was detached in last early as True Solitaire's pacemaker A Likely Story (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) roared off ahead. Cajoled into contention inside the last furlong by Ryan Moore, the bay snuck up the inner to gain the edge over Stenographer and True Solitaire close home in a three-way go. “Ryan gave him a great ride. He said he will go on better ground and will get further,” Aidan O'Brien commented. “He won his maiden and then was a bit keen in a group race here. Ryan said he's a horse that will suit America in time. He'll step up into a trial now going further.” Click for the Racing Post result. Video, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
