Gun Runner Returns in Razorback

Two-million dollar earner Gun Runner (Candy Ride {Arg}) may have been forced to miss last month's lucrative GI Pegasus World Cup Invitational due to the EHV-1 outbreak and quarantine at Fair Grounds, but the recently turned 4-year-old will look to start making up for lost time in Monday's $500,000 GIII Razorback H. at Oaklawn. Last seen finally getting his Grade I in Churchill's Nov. 25 Clark H., the Steve Asmussen pupil lays over this field on paper, but may need to dodge some wet weather–his only two off-the-board finishes came on a wet strip. California-based Blue Tone (Birdstone) is proven on both wet and dry surfaces. He most recently annexed the rained-off GIII San Gabriel S. in the Santa Anita slop Jan. 7, and trainer Bob Hess, Jr. boasts recent success shipping eastward for a dirt route stakes–he upset the Poseidon H. on the Pegasus World Cup undercard with Imperative (Bernardini). Hawaakom (Jazil) and Dazzling Gem (Misremembered) ran one-two in the muddy Louisiana S. at Fair Grounds Jan. 21. Nine-year-old Domain's Rap (Cherokee Rap) has won his last two starts locally–the Jan. 13 Fifth Season S. and a Feb. 4 optional claimer.
