Haggas Pair Set For Newbury

William Haggas | Racing Post

Newbury host their first flat meeting of the season this Friday and Saturday and trainer William Haggas intends unleashing some of his leading 3-year-olds in the respective colts and fillies Guineas trials on Saturday. The G3 JLT Greenham S. is an oft used stepping stone to the G1 2000 Guineas and Haggas will see if his Tasleet (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) can earn his ticket to Newmarket April 30. Frankel (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) was the last colt to capture the Greenham/2000 Guineas double and though Haggas is making no comparisons he is hopeful of a decent display. “Tasleet will go for the Greenham Stakes. He is a nice horse and has been working well. I am pretty sure he will get the trip, but I am not sure he will like the ground. It will be the same for most of them though and they have got to start somewhere.” Tasleet was last seen failing by a nose to Sanus Per Aquam (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) in the G3 Somerville Tattersall S. at Newmarket having previously won the valuable DBS Premier Yearling S. at York.

Besharah (Ire) (Kodiac {GB) was another Sommerville Lodge flagbearer last year winning Group races at York and Ascot before finishing third to Lumiere (GB) (Shamardal) in the G1 Connolly's Red Mills Cheveley Park S. at Newmarket. Haggas will let the filly take her chance in the G3 Dubai Duty Free S. over seven furlongs, unknown territory for the Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum owned 3-year-old. “Besharah is doing nicely and is an intended runner in the Dubai Duty Free Stakes. She is very well but obviously there is a question mark about the trip. I actually don't think she will mind the ground, but whether or not she gets the trip in testing ground, I don't know,” surmised the trainer.
