All-sources handle for Santa Anita's 103-day racing season, which began Dec. 26 and ended Tuesday, rose $23.5 million over last year's totals, a 2.5% increase. There were also 62,400 more visits to the Arcadia track over last year, resulting in an 8% increase–the fourth consecutive year Santa Anita has posted attendance gains.
“We're encouraged by our numbers and we remain committed to working with our horsemen to do even better and to provide our customers with the kind of world class racing they expect to see here at Santa Anita,” said Joe Morris, Senior Vice President, West Coast Operations, for The Stronach Group. “We finished strongly this past few weeks because we were able to increase our field size, which makes for better opportunities for our players.”
Santa Anita switched to three-day racing weeks towards the end of the meet to augment field size, but ran a full five days during its closing week.
