Vending Machine made it back-to-back stakes wins with former claims for the Peter Miller barn, earning an upset victory in the Eddie Logan S. at Santa Anita.
Taken for $40,000 from the Doug O'Neill barn out of a fourth-place finish Sept. 2 at Del Mar, the chestnut graduated next out in a maiden seller here Oct. 2. Tried in the off-the-turf GIII Cecil B. DeMille S. last out Nov. 27 at Del Mar, the $100,000 KEENOV buy was a good second at 12-1 after contesting a quick pace. Sent off at the same number in this turf debut, Vending Machine showed speed to chase inside from third through moderate splits of :23.86 and :48.19. Patiently handled on the far turn, he was sent after frontrunner Cistron (The Factor) in earnest at the approaching the quarter pole and overtook that foe at the sixteenth marker before holding off late-running favorite Soglio (Scat Daddy) by a half-length in 1:35.87. The winner's dam has a yearling filly by Street Cry (Ire) and foaled a Cairo Prince colt this term before visiting Bellamy Road. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
