Owner Harry Aleo, who campaigned champion sprinter Lost in the Fog, died Saturday at his home in San Francisco after a long battle with cancer. He was 88. Drafted into the Army during World War II, Aleo was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge. After his discharge from the military, the California native went to work in a real estate firm. He soon owned his own agency, as well as an insurance brokerage. Aleo was introduced to horse racing by a former son-in-law, and purchased his first horses in 1979. Greg Gilchrist was his trainer from the first. In addition to Lost in the Fog, Aleo campaigned GSWs Smokey Stover and Victorina and SWs High Resolve, Beyond Brilliant and Frisco Belle.
