Godolphin's G1 Caulfield Cup favourite Hartnell (GB) (Authorized {Ire}) will bypass next weekend's G1 The Metropolitan H. at Randwick and will instead head to Melbourne to continue his spring campaign, with the following day's G1 Turnbull S. his next assignment ahead of the Oct. 15 Caulfield Cup. Hartnell was among the Metropolitan entries on Monday and opened the A$3.50 favourite, but was removed from consideration after being assigned 58.5kgs.
“The decision was made in consultation with the whole team here and abroad and it was decided to send Hartnell to the Turnbull S.,” said trainer John O'Shea. “All of the spring features in Melbourne remain on the table and a decision will be made on a global basis that considers the locally trained horses as well as those coming from overseas. We are excited about sending him to Melbourne and look forward to him running in the Turnbull next weekend.”
