Hashtag’ Looks for Retweet–Sorry–Repeat
Bourbon Lane Stable’s Hashtag Bourbon (Super Saver) will stretch out to 8 1/2 panels as tries to continue his sire’s red-hot streak in the “Win and You’re In” GIII Iroquois S. at Churchill Downs today. The Kellyn Gorder trainee broke slowly before rallying to be third in a six-panel special weight behind Mr. Z (Malibu Moon) here Aug. 10, but put it all together last time with a decisive 4 1/2-length tally in the Mountaineer Juvenile S. Aug. 2. Leading freshman sire Super Saver (Maria’s Mon) did his best work at this venue–he annexed the 2009 GII Kentucky Jockey Club S. by five lengths and, of course, took the following year’s GI Kentucky Derby. Zayat Stable’s aforementioned Mr. Z was beaten just a neck with a very rough trip in Saratoga’s GIII Sanford S. July 19, and was a clear-cut second best behind I Spent It (Super Saver) in the GII Saratoga Special S. Aug. 10. “He ran well at Saratoga this summer and we’ve been pleased with him,” trainer D. Wayne Lukas said. “We chose this spot because it’s two turns and because it’s a ‘Win and You’re In’ race for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Running him in [Monday’s GI] Hopeful at Saratoga would have been too soon for him to come back.” Donegal Racing and conditioner Dale Romans blew up the tote in this race last season when 34-1 Cleburne (Dixie Union) led home 26-1 Smart Cover (Any Given Saturday) for a $500 exacta. Both of those runners entered off one-mile turf maiden scores at Ellis, and Danny Boy (Harlan’s Holiday) does the same. The son of Grade II-placed juvenile Unbridled Beauty (Unbridled’s Song) showed off an explosive turn of foot when graduating by three lengths Aug. 1. “I start a lot of horses on the turf,” Romans explained. “Especially for a little longer distance, I think a lot of them can run well on the grass; just some of them can’t take that to the dirt. I don’t think he’ll have a problem taking to the dirt, nor with the extra distance.” Romans added, “Danny Boy is definitely on a similar path and has the same owners as Cleburne, but their personalities are a little different. Hopefully he’ll take us to victory again.” Magdalena Racing homebred Holy Frazier (Holy Bull) was fourth behind Danny Boy second out before breaking through in a similar spot two weeks later.
