G1 Golden Slipper victor and 'TDN Rising Star' Capitalist (Aus) (Written Tycoon {Aus}), who is set to make his 3-year-old debut in Saturday's G2 Missile S. at Randwick, will still line up in that 1200-metre contest if the going remains heavy, co-trainer Paul Snowden told Racing.com. Under the weight-for-age conditions of the Missile, Capitalist will get a weight-break of five to seven kilos from his six rivals.
“It's about our options going forward,” Snowden told Racing.com's Racing Ahead on RSN 927. “If we do scratch, he runs the following week in a set-weights-and-penalties race, carrying 60kg. Or we can go to Melbourne for a 3-year-old set-weights race. They're the other options we've got up our sleeve, but we've got a 7kg pull in the weights on Saturday, and that's got to count for something.”
While Capitalist has never raced over a heavy surface, Snowden pointed out that the A$3.5-million earner has worked over such a track.
“He travels through it alright, but it's when you let them off the bridle, you just don't know,” he said. “He hasn't been on what we're going to be presented with Saturday, as far as how heavy it will be, so you're in the lap of the gods a bit.”
Snowden acknowledged the importance of protecting Capitalist's stud value. The colt will stand at Newgate Farm upon the completion of his racing career.
“We've got to protect his form now,” Snowden said. “We've got to place him right, and we'll only run if he can win. We've got to be very wary of that, and confident he can get through that track and be winning.”
