SWISS RANGE (GB) (f, 3, Zamindar–Spanish Sun {GSW-Eng, $149,384}, by El Prado {Ire}), a daughter of the G2 Ribblesdale S. winner Spanish Sun, was 1 1/2 lengths behind the Cumani representative Tiptree (Ire) (Duke of Marmalade {Ire}) on debut over seven furlongs here at the end of October and broke well in a first-time hood to sit behind the leading trio. Racing settled despite being wide without cover, the 7-4 market-leader moved smoothly to take over from Golden Stunner (Ire) (Dream Ahead) passing the two-furlong marker and stayed on powerfully to account for that rival by five lengths. “She's a charming filly who has strengthened up over the winter,” trainer John Gosden explained. “The hood has a calming influence, as she can be a little bit on her nerves at home. Frankie was clear that he'd like to go a mile and a quarter with her next time and I think that trip will be spot-on for her. The [Listed] Pretty Polly [S. at Newmarket May 1] is a strong possibility.” Golden Reign (Ire) (Champs Elysees {GB}), the half-sister to Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}), fared much the best of the newcomers and was particularly eye-catching staying on from a sluggish start to be third, a further 1 1/2 lengths away. Spanish Sun, who is a full-sister to the accomplished Stoute stable representative Spanish Moon, winner of the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and placed in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic and G1 Hong Kong Vase from the family of the high-class Daring Miss (GB) (Sadler's Wells), also has a 2-year-old colt by Bated Breath (GB) named Cool Climate (Ire). Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $9,910. Video, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
