Hellvelyn's Mrs Danvers Takes the Cornwallis In Her Stride

Mrs Danvers | Racing Post

Unbeaten coming through Newbury's speed tests of the Weatherbys Super Sprint July 16 and Listed St Hugh's S. Aug. 12, Mrs Danvers emerged from a spell on the sidelines through sickness to continue where she had left off in impressive style. Breaking smartly to track the free-running Battaash in second, the grey rolled by approaching the furlong pole and galloped strongly to the line to break the 2-year-old course record. “She's very straightforward and relaxed–she'll learn again coming to a track like this and going into the 'dip' and seems to have a little bit of class about her,” jockey Richard Kingscote said of the winner, who has a foal half-sister by Swiss Spirit (GB) to come. “I knew she was good enough and she's done nothing wrong.” Trainer Jonathan Portman added, “She's very special–she's got the speed and the spirit and so far the soundness. Shortly after her last run she got a bug and has been wrong, so she had to come out of training for a month but she came right today and is an amazing filly. That's it now for the season and I think she'll stay six next year.”
